The Ultimate Guide to Crock Pot Smothered Veal Chops (Pork Alternative)

Incredibly tender and flavorful veal chops slow-cooked in a rich and savory onion and mushroom gravy. A simple, hands-off recipe for a perfect comfort food dinner.

  • Total Time: 6 hours 10 minutes

Ingredients

Scale

4 veal chops, bone-in or boneless (about 1-inch thick)

1 packet (1 oz) dry onion soup mix

1 cup low-sodium chicken or veal broth

1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup

1 packet (0.87 oz) brown gravy mix

1 tsp garlic powder

Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

2 tbsp cornstarch

2 tbsp cold water

Instructions

1. Season the veal chops on both sides with salt and pepper.

2. Place the veal chops in a single layer in the bottom of the Crock Pot.

3. Sprinkle the dry onion soup mix and the brown gravy mix evenly over the chops.

4. In a small bowl, whisk together the low-sodium broth and the cream of mushroom soup until smooth. Pour this mixture over the veal chops. Sprinkle the garlic powder on top.

5. Cover the Crock Pot and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours, or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours, until the veal is fork-tender.

6. To thicken the gravy, mix the cornstarch and cold water in a small bowl to create a slurry. Stir this slurry into the liquid in the Crock Pot during the last 30 minutes of cooking.

7. Serve the veal chops hot, smothered in the rich gravy.
