Ingredients
1 1/2 cups sugar, divided
8 oz berries (fresh or frozen, any variety)
2 cups lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
4 cups water, divided
Instructions
1. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of water, and the berries.
2. Heat over medium, stirring occasionally. Once bubbling, simmer for 10 minutes.
3. Strain using a fine mesh sieve to remove pulp and seeds.
4. Cool the syrup completely.
5. In a large pitcher, combine lemon juice, cooled syrup, remaining 1/2 cup sugar, and 3 cups water.
6. Stir until sugar dissolves.
7. Chill in refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
8. Serve over ice, garnished with lemon slices or berries if desired.
Notes
Use fresh lemon juice for best flavor.
Taste and adjust sweetness with more sugar or water.
Frozen berries work just as well if fresh aren’t available.
To make it sparkling, replace 1 cup water with sparkling water.
